Day 2 of the trip was in Napa. We had a fairly laid back day which was nice. It wasn’t our finest scheduling day, as we were running up and down 29 most of the day, but we were able to visit 3 of our favorite wineries and have a wonderful dinner.

Cliff Lede
We have to start by saying we are biased when it comes to this winery. We have been members here for 5 years. We love their red wines and Poetry is one of if not our favorite wine. This year we made an appointment to do the Backstage Tasting. We were taken to a building separate from the main Tasting room and were surrounded by art of different music legends (e.g.: the Beatles, Jimmy Hendricks, the Stones). We were the only two people for the tasting and Todd was knowledgeable and fun. We cannot wait to go back!
2014 Fel Chardonnay Savoy Vineyard ($48)

(Julie is not usually a fan of Chardonnay without bubbles. She dumped her Tasting into Walt’s glass)
2013 Fel Pinot Noir Savoy Vineyard ($70)

This was overpriced.
2011 Songbook ($220)

2013 Diamond Mountain Cabernet ($90)

2014 Beckstoffer To Kalon Cabernet ($185)

2013 Howell Mountain Cabernet ($90)

2014 High Fidelity Merlot Blend ($85)

2014 Scarlet Love (This is the latest release in the Rock Block series.) ($110)

St. Supery
This is another winery whose wines we love. Julie visited eight years ago, but it has been renovated and looks completely different. We were fortunate to have our wonderful friend, Julia, setup a tasting for us. The tasting room was modern and welcoming. There was also great space outside and upstairs to have a tasting. Pedro, our wine educator, had only been with St Supery for 2 months, but he was friendly and enthusiastic. I hope he learned as much from us as we did from him.
2016 Dollarhide Sauvignon Blanc ($35)

2015 Dollarhide Estate Chardonnay ($35)

2016 Oak Free Chardonnay ($25)

Even Julie liked this one!
2015 Napa Valley Estate Virtu ($30)

2013 Rutherford Estate Merlot ($50)

2013 Rutherford Estate Cabernet Franc ($65)

2013 Dollarhide Elevation ($85)

2013 Rutherford Estate Cabernet Sauvignon ($125)

2012 Dollarhide Cabernet Sauvignon ($100)

Domaine Carneros
This is another winery that we are members. We love their sparkling wines and drink some at every special occasion. We stop here every time we are in Napa for the wonderful wines and the view. You get to sit outside and overlook the vineyards. It is beautiful. This time, however, we had a very different experience than in the past. We could not believe how crowded it was. We struggled to find a place to park and had to park in the grass/dirt. Then we passed port-a-pottys on the way in. Then there were at least 20 children there doing cartwheels, crying, generally distracting from what is usually a wonderful experience. We love their wines but may never come back to visit and will not recommend our friends visit in the future. (Note: The wines were still fabulous.)
2012 Estate Brut ($35)

2012 Blanc de Blancs ($59)

2013 Brut Rose ($44)

2012 Vermeil Demi-Sec ($39)

2009 Le Reve Blanc de Blancs ($110)

2011 Le Reve Blanc de Blancs ($110)

Blanc de Noir ($39)

Mustards Grill
One night we were watching Chef’s Picks on the Food Network and Bobby Flay said you have to try the Mongolian Pork Chop at Mustards Grill. So Julie had to try it. Jason was our server and he was great. Even as the evening progressed and the restaurant got busy (a bus dropped off a bunch of people), Jason gave us his personal attention. The food was delicious. Walt had the white bean soup and beef tenderloin with fingerling potatoes. Julie had a three lettuce salad with creamy blue cheese and spiced pistachios along with her pork chop. We also had shoe-string onion rings and finished with a cheesecake tart with blackberries and strawberries. Of course we had some wine, a Font-Mars Pays D’Oc Clemente Rose. It was a great way to end our second day! We would highly recommend eating here.
